COMEDIANS REACH NEW HEIGHTS ON EVEREST WITH LSH AND DD6
Earlier this year, a team of four comedians set out to conquer new comedic peaks in aid of Save the Children. Aiming to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's highest stand-up comedy gig (on land), Martin Mor, Wayne Deakin, Mickey D & Tom Wrigglesworth set out on a 9-day trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Accompanying them was Martin Audio's very own DD6 loudspeaker as their PA of choice, provided by MLA Network Partners London Speaker Hire.
Not to be taken lightly, the gruelling trek to Everest's South Side took the climbers to 5,365m above sea-level, as they battled overwhelming tiredness and struggled to acclimatise to the high altitude and freezing night temperatures. Travelling on the back of a Sherpa, the DD6 made its way to Base Camp. Weighing only 6kgs, but providing 150W AES, 600W peak, it was the perfect choice of compact, portable system to entertain the crowds of climbers gathering at Base Camp for their Everest summit attempts as it took its place on a purpose-built stage, set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Everest.
As one of the world's top treks, the journey to Everest Base Camp is not to be taken lightly, as participants battle overwhelming tiredness, struggle to acclimatise to the high altitude and face night temperatures as low as -10°C. One who has experienced the privations is Martin Audio's Sophie McCurdy. 'I've done the very same trek myself, and the last thing I can imagine doing on arriving at Base Camp is performing a gig. I was completely exhausted! It's a really incredible achievement for a great cause and we're really pleased that London Speaker Hire chose our DD6 loudspeakers to be part of it in a small way.'
