MARTIN AUDIO CDD SPREADS THE SAUCE IN CHELTENHAM

The Dodo Pub Co. has added to its portfolio of gastropubs with the opening of The Bottle of Sauce in Cheltenham - its first operation outside Oxford, where it is based.

Housed in the former Quaich - right in the city centre - the new venue will trade through the day in an environment of open brick and iron work, wood-fired pizzas, afternoon teas and a Martin Audio sound system provided by Martin Audio partner, Old Barn Audio (OBA).

Co-owner Leo Johnson contacted OBA following an internet search, stating his desire for a high-end sound system, and director Phil Clark was soon on site weighing up options. 'When I first visited the site CDD had just been launched, and it was an obvious choice for this venue,' he said. 'They were comfortable knowing that the Martin Audio brand was used on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury and features throughout the Ministry of Sound.'

Dividing the venue into given zones, the focal point is the high-ceilinged main bar where four CDD8 (8') speakers are mounted high and angled down serving the entire 'L' shaped bar.  Plugin points and zone volume controls are located behind the bar for ease of use and control.

The DJ area is located in the separate annexe where three CDD10 (10') serve the entire area offering high quality sound through until midnight. Bass is via a pair of CSX112 (12') subwoofers.  This DJ area is adjoined to the courtyard via a walkway, where a pair of CDD5-WR have been installed. Says Phil Clark: 'When Martin Audio brought out their Weatherised range it was perfect, as we could then maintain the same aesthetic and sound quality throughout venues.'

Elsewhere, a pair of CDD5 adorn the walls of a separate games room and another pair of CDD5 are in the reading room - a quiet snug.

For the operators, who in addition to BGM and DJ music will also present live acoustic acts, this system gives them the versatility they require. OBA have provided various plug-in points to accommodate third party items such as a sound mixer, while a zoner will route the sound source to any of the destinations throughout the gastropub.
